MSC students recognized for “Making a Difference”

Two Menno Simons College (MSC) students have been recognized for their part in making the world a better place. During International Development Week, which had as its theme “I am Making a Difference,” the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) named eight youth as Young Global Citizens, including MSC’s Tyler Morden of Morden, MB and Zoe Gross from Barisford, MB. Faith Leaders Continue Dialogue on Truth and Reconciliation

When a tornado watch was announced during the first National Event of Truth and Reconciliation Canada (held in Winnipeg on June 16-19, 2010), several important events were suddenly cancelled. One of these has been rescheduled and will be held in Winnipeg next month. The event is a Round Table Discussion on Reconciliation; it would have been a key moment in the popular Interfaith Tent. The Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA), an organization headquartered in the United States and affiliated with the International Peace Research Association, will hold its 8th Annual Conference this October 1 and 2, with Menno Simons College and UWinnipeg’s Global College serving as hosts for this important international conference. Menno Simons College Gets Permanent Home
Major Donation from Friesen Family Foundation Makes it Possible

For the first time in its 20-year history, Menno Simons College (MSC) has found a permanent home. Through a significant legacy gift from the David and Katherine Friesen Family Foundation, which is a long-time supporter of MSC and Mennonite university education in Canada, MSC has purchased the first two floors of 520 Portage Avenue, the building where it has leased space since 2005.

Menno Simons College Social Justice Fair Explores Women’s Justice Issues

Students of Menno Simons College (MSC), Canadian Mennonite University (CMU), and The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg) gather for MSC’s Social Justice Fair 2010 on Wednesday, February 10 to explore issues surrounding women and justice.

“The Justice Fair offers a valuable opportunity for students and community members to learn about and potentially make connections with social justice-related organizations in Winnipeg,” says Caitlin Eliasson, co-coordinator for the event. This year’s Fair features display booths from a number of social justice organizations representing issues such as women’s empowerment, human rights, restorative justice, sustainability, and development, adds Eliasson. Punishment Not Answer For Crime, Professor Says

When Jeff graduated from high school, he decided to go for a joyride in his car on the schoolyard, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the freshly laid sod in the process. But instead of just allowing the charges to proceed in court, the school sent a representative to meet with Jeff and a mediator. Together, the three worked out an agreement whereby Jeff paid for the damaged sod by working for the school division. Read more...
